A hundred great reasons to celebrate Sir David Attenborough and eat out for nature

Hertfordshire wetlands and woodlands received a major boost this week thanks to diners at the county’s most sustainable restaurant group celebrating Sir David Attenborough’s 100th birthday with dishes from a specially created seasonal menu.

Customers at Lussmanns four restaurants in Herts and one in Bedfordshire enjoyed 400 quintessentially British summer dishes and the award-winning group donated £1 per dish to the Herts and Middlesex Wildlife Trust (HMWT).

Herts and Middlesex Wildlife Trust Chief Executive, Laura Burrows said: “With 40 nature reserves to care for, every penny counts, so a £400 donation from Lussmanns is a real boost to our ongoing work protecting habitats and supporting nature’s recovery across the region. These reserves and our work in the wider countryside play a vital role in giving wildlife the space and conditions it needs to thrive, and we’re hugely grateful to Lussmanns and their nature-loving customers for helping make that possible.”

English grown asparagus, Somerset goat’s curd, ChalkStream trout from Hampshire and early season strawberries paired with ice cream from Barnet, were the standout, seasonal ingredients of the three-course menu celebrating the milestone birthday of the inimitable naturalist.

Andrei Lussmann, Managing Director and founder of Lussmanns said: “While we’ve been doing our very small bit for nature for almost a quarter of a century, Sir David has been working tirelessly to raise our awareness about protecting the planet since before I was born. We’re delighted our customers could mark his big day, enjoy the best of British produce and help support the outstanding work of HMWT.”

Sir David is President Emeritus of the Wildlife Trusts and has been a supporter of the charity for decades.
