Eating alresco on the River Stort
With yet another Wimbledon over with English - sorry - British hopes dashed, the World Cup a forgotten memory and The Tour De France pretty much spent we could be forgiven for believing that summer had ended. The rain has recently skirmished the Cornish coast and dark clouds are tearing into middle England, or are they?
Unusually for this time of the year the summer wind still remains strong and those high clouds seem almost aloof in their pristine white jackets wondering aimlessly like nonchalant cats fresh after a generous saucer of Devon’s finest.
With our new found love for 'staycations' a season of plentiful should be on offer for all our lovely coastal market towns and the need to cover ourselves in factor 50 might not be what the doctored ordered.
Bishop's Stortford, the setting for our most recent addition to the family, sits on the River Stort boasting a magnificent outdoor terrace with swans and barges sharing the spoils with anglers and walkers who set the tone for a very quiet and lovely part of the town. There is much to see in the town; a rich collection of 16th and 17th century buildings in the centre, including several of the old inns made famous when the town was an important staging post on the route between London and both Newmarket and Cambridge.
We look forward to welcoming you for lunch or early tea as the sun sets to the west and the moorhens make heavy work of hiding in the plants that grow on the opposite side of the canal.
